South Valley Cusco
Overview
The tour begins between 8:30 and 9:00 AM, with pickup from their hotels. We will visit Tipón, located south of Cusco, considered a marvel of hydraulic engineering, with 12 impressive andenes (terraces) of fertile earth and a water fountain.
As a whole, it is a masterpiece of Inca hydraulic engineering; Pikillacta, a Wari city, has a very harmonious geometric design; and the Church of Andahuaylillas, known as the Sistine Chapel of the Americas, with a Baroque style and a large collection of fresco murals, as well as paintings from the Cuzco school. Finally, we will return to the city of Cusco.
We will begin this cultural experience by picking up passengers from their respective hotels between 08:30 and 09:00 hrs. On board our tourist transport, we will head towards the southeastern sector of the Cusco valley to start the tour of three jewels of the Andean historical and architectural heritage.
Tipón – Inca Hydraulic Engineering:
Our first stop will be at Tipón, one of the most impressive examples of Inca hydraulic mastery. This complex features 12 perfectly defined agricultural terraces, finely carved walls, and canals where water flows to this day, a masterpiece of engineering and harnessing the mountain's water resources.
Pikillacta – Pre-Inca Wari Citadel:
We will continue to Pikillacta, an ancient city belonging to the Wari civilization (pre-Inca times). Here we will admire a geometric urban layout with straight streets, symmetrical enclosures, and high walls. It is one of the few well-preserved pre-Inca complexes in the region.
Church of San Pedro Apóstol de Andahuaylillas – “The Sistine Chapel of the Americas”:
We will end in Andahuaylillas, a charming colonial town that houses one of the most beautiful churches on the continent. This Baroque temple is famous for its impressive interior decorated with fresco murals, gold-leafed ceilings, and a valuable collection of paintings from the 17th-century Cusco School. We will return to Cusco at approximately 2:30 p.m., culminating a day rich in history, architecture, and religious art.
