Cusco Tours & Day Trips

Explore the ancient Inca capital and its spectacular surroundings with expert local guides

Discover the Imperial City of Cusco and Beyond

Cusco is one of the most extraordinary cities in the Americas — once the beating heart of the Inca Empire and today a UNESCO World Heritage Site where ancient stone walls meet vibrant colonial architecture. At 3,400 meters above sea level in the Peruvian Andes, the city is the perfect base for exploring some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes and archaeological sites on the planet.

Beyond the city itself, the Cusco region holds hidden wonders: the emerald terraces of the Sacred Valley, the turquoise waters of Humantay Lake, the rainbow-colored mountains of Vinicunca, and the remote thermal lagoons of Ausangate. Our day tours let you experience all of it with certified local guides who know every story behind every stone.

The name “Waqra Pukara” comes from the Quechua language and means “Fortress of the Horns”, inspired by the unique rock formation resembling the horns of a bull. Essential Tips for Visiting Cusco

Cusco sits at 3,400 meters (11,150 feet) above sea level, and altitude sickness (known locally as soroche) is a real concern for many first-time visitors. Here's how to make the most of your time in the region:

  • Arrive 2–3 days early. Spend your first days in Cusco resting, walking slowly, and drinking coca tea before attempting any strenuous tours.
  • Stay hydrated. Drink at least 3 liters of water per day. Avoid alcohol during your first 48 hours at altitude.
  • Protect yourself from the sun. The UV index at high altitude is extreme. Wear sunscreen SPF 50+, sunglasses, and a hat on all tours.
  • Layer your clothing. Cusco weather changes rapidly — mornings and evenings can be very cold even in the dry season. Always bring a warm layer and a rain jacket.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before visiting Cusco

We recommend a minimum of 4–5 days in Cusco to acclimatize, explore the city, and do at least 1–2 day trips. If you plan to trek the Inca Trail or visit Machu Picchu, add 2–3 more days. A week in Cusco gives you time to experience the city, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu without rushing.

Yes, altitude sickness (soroche) is common for visitors arriving in Cusco at 3,400m. Symptoms include headache, fatigue, nausea, and shortness of breath. The best remedy is rest, hydration, and coca tea. Most people feel better after 24–48 hours. If you have heart or lung conditions, consult a doctor before traveling to high altitude.

The Boleto Turístico gives access to many of Cusco's main archaeological sites including Sacsayhuaman, Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray, and more. It comes in full (16 sites) and partial circuit options. For our Sacred Valley and Cusco City tours, entrance tickets are included in the tour price — you don't need to buy them separately.

It depends on your interests. For history and culture, the Sacred Valley tour is unbeatable. For dramatic natural scenery and a physical challenge, Rainbow Mountain or Humantay Lake are spectacular choices. For a unique combination of both, our Super Sacred Valley tour covers Chinchero, Moray, the salt mines of Maras, Ollantaytambo, and Pisac market in one full day.

Cusco is generally a safe city for tourists, especially in the main tourist areas around the Plaza de Armas, San Blas, and the main archaeological sites. As with any destination, use common sense: keep valuables secure, avoid poorly lit areas at night, and use registered taxis or your hotel's transport. Our guides accompany you throughout all tours for your safety and peace of mind.
