Q’eswachaka Bridge Tour - Last Inca Rope Bridge in Cusco

Overview

The Q’eswachaka Bridge Tour from Cusco takes travelers to one of the most extraordinary surviving engineering achievements of the Inca Empire. During the time of the Incas, a vast network of roads known as the Qhapaq Ñan connected remote regions across the Andes, allowing communication, trade, and transportation throughout a challenging mountainous landscape.

As part of this impressive road system, the Incas built suspension bridges made from woven plant fibers, a remarkable example of ancient engineering that allowed people to cross deep canyons and powerful rivers. Today, only one of these bridges still exists: the Q’eswachaka Bridge, widely recognized as the last remaining Inca rope bridge in the world.

Located above the Apurímac River at 3,600 meters (11,811 ft), the bridge measures 28.5 meters long and 1.20 meters wide and is rebuilt every year by four local Quechua communities using traditional techniques passed down for more than 500 years.

In recognition of this remarkable cultural tradition, UNESCO declared the Q’eswachaka Bridge an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2013.

This full-day tour not only allows visitors to cross the famous Inca bridge but also to explore the spectacular landscapes of the South Valley of Cusco, including the scenic Circuit of the Four Lagoons.
